Model Monday and Question for the Class...

Photobucket

I'm working on something new... here's the first part.

EDIT:

Since there was some doubt expressed about whether or not I painted this elephant, here are the steps:

sketch on Lutradur...

First coat of paint...

....highlights and lowlights....

and then some fine brush work to produce the first picture.

I hope that from now on, there will be no doubts about who is producing the work on my blog!

And now, completely unrelated to that:  do you have two or three favourite blogs that fall into the textile art, mixed media, collage or art categories? I follow a few but am looking for more.

Please link them in the comments (maybe with the reason why you like the blog) and then I'll do a round up on Friday.

P.S.  Wednesday, I'm doing a giveaway.  See you then!

  1. Kit - do you get the BBC in Canada? (I guess you might do on the internet)

There is an amazing series on just now called simply Africa. Last weeks was about the plains of East Africa, and part was filmed during a horrendous drought. Consequently the elephants suffered terribly.

There was one heart breaking scene where a baby elephant, a bit like this one, could not go on, lay down and quietly died with it's mother by its side. It was so gently filmed and so heartbreaking. If you can find it you might want to have a look, but you'll need tissues by your side.

  2. well of course there are a bunch of fiber artists on OTWF - but one that I never miss is Elizabeth Barton's elizabethbarton.blogspot.com - which is a huge wealth of design information - not to mention she's extremely smart so it get you thinking! I also love sandee's blog - http://sandeedee.blogspot.com/ because she's always putting interesting weird inspiration there and she writes well.I love Maria's blog http://mariaelkins.com because she's crazy talented and her work is figurative. (those are some of my fav's that don't join us on Fridays)

  3. I just *love* watching Monika Kinner-Whalen's thread painting prairie art pieces emerge. She's incredibly talented at transforming prairie photos into miniature thread paintings, and I love the prairie dress she designed and sewed last year. http://mysweetprairie.blogspot.com

  5. OH, I LOVE elephants! I'm also a big fan of Monika's, but mostly follow quilt related blogs. Have you ever seen this blog? http://multicoloredpieces.blogspot.com/ I follow her too. She's very artistic, and lives a world away. Love her blog!
