Man's Fans

A UFO that came in from the cold. I originally blogged about this WIP/UFO back in January, before most of you even knew I existed, but here's my original post if you're interested.  It's a quilt I called Man's Fans.  The top was done, I just had to do the quilting, already!

I had a very busy weekend, so busy, I didn't even have time to reply to your birthday wishes (which I thank you for), so I thought I'd pull out this old one.

It was made out of the leftover scraps from  Autumn Steals In, as well as a luscious chocolate stretch satin for the borders and back, saffron yellow upholstery weight silk for the binding and some bits and pieces of African cottons.   I said in my original post that I thought I was going to regret the choice of stretch satin when I started quilting, and boy-oh-boy, was that a prophetic statement!

The stretch satin did indeed stretch while I was working with it, and so there were tucks and pulls and gathers that were impossible (for someone at my skill level with the tools that I had at my disposal) to avoid.  Free motion quilting on my little Singer can be a pip sometimes!

At first, I was upset about this, but after speaking to BSP, I've come to the realization that these things are part of the beauty of the fabric - and that since I do work with different kinds of fabric all the time, I have to accept that those "variations" in the quilt will be part of my work.  That BSP is sooooo smart!  :)

It really did turn out to be a quilt I'm very happy with, which is good, I'll have to make another one - a friend has requested that I make him a queen size version of this (this one fits nicely as a topper on a queen sized bed).

But enough with the quilts - I know you're not so interesested in the quilts today, what you really want to know is - who is the winner?

But first, a note.

After I blogged about the giveaway for my followers, I picked up a couple of more followers, and I wanted to welcome you. :) But I also wanted to let you know that I didn't put your names in the drawing. This drawing was a thank you for those who have supported me all along.

In a few months, I'll do another give away which will include you, but this one was a thank you for the ones who have been here all along. :)   So, without further ado,

I printed out all on your names on tiny bits of equal sized paper,  added the extra ones for those who commented,

recruited BSP to do the actual drawing, and the winner is *drumroll* BARB!

I have to say that I'm really pleased that it was Barb. Barb has been a true supporter of my endeavours, leaving a positive and affirming comment on nearly every post; really, it's a true pleasure to have someone like Barb reading along.  So I couldn't be happier that she won!

So, congratulations Barb. I understand I'm making you an art quilt, but if you change your mind, let me know. I'll be starting it this week.

Thanks everyone, for choosing to follow me in my quilty adventures.  Your support is very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Kit

  5. Congratulations, Barb! We can live vicariously by watching Kit put your quilt together. It is bound to be wonderful as is all her work,

I like the "Man's Fans" quilt a lot, and especially the quilting on the back. I agree with BSP that the fabric irregularity is part of its beauty!
