It's all about SPRING!

Today, I finished the top I blogged about in my last post, which I'm tentatively calling Last Fall, In Spring . I know what I mean by this, but I'm not sure my meaning will be clear to others.

Last week, as I looked at a post-it in this bright, fresh green, I thought how wonderful it would look with some fall-coloured fabrics I had in my stash. And as I put together my wonky blocks in various combinations of spring green and fall colours,

it seemed to me that spring was peeking through the detritus of last fall. The autum fabrics were a combination of

70's cotton in what, to my eyes was a sort of vaguely "South American" pattern, and a rayon-linen blend of autumnal leaves and flowers on a strangely lovely muddy brown background.

As is my habit, I added some silk taffeta, this time in the burnt orange sashing:

(boy, none of the colours in this post are trueing up well!) And the end result was this:

aken hanging over the fence in our back yard. Sadly, it isn't the most flattering of pictures for some reason, the green isn't appearing as the actual colour it is (like that second photo up there) and it's the green that really makes this quilt. *LE SIGH*

I hope that later on this month when I quilt it, I'll be able to get pics of it that accurately reflect the colour. I also hope to find a better way to "style" my quilts!

  1. Love the quilt top over the fence! I have photos of mine hanging by clothes pins on a line in my back yard. Like the 70's autumn colors. Agree with you about not wanting my quilts to look like all the others. Hence my strippy quilt.

  2. thanks! I've been thinking about doing a string quilt too - possibly another crazy quilt, with all my little bits of strings. I like the idea of having a crazy quilt that's made up of each actual quilt that I've made - although given what I've made in the last year, that could be an authentically "crazy" quilt. ;)
